Companies House verification for a Person of Significant Control (Psc)

From 18 November 2025, new legal requirements under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 make it mandatory for People with Significant Control (PSCs) of UK companies to verify their identity with Companies House. Partner Andrew Wayness explains.

• All PSCs must verify their identity to receive a unique Companies House personal code.

• PSCs must provide their personal code and a verification statement within 14 days of being added to the register or within 14 days of the company’s confirmation statement date (if also a director).

• All existing PSCs that are non-directors must complete verification within the first 14 days of their birth month. If born in October, then they must complete by 14 October 2026.

• Any new PSCs must verify within 14 days of their appointment.

Failure to comply may result in offenses, financial penalties, and prosecution.

How to make sure you comply
If you wish you can use the GOV.UK online service to verify your identity, which requires a biometrics passport or UK photo driving licence and smartphone.

As an agent, we are registered with Companies House as an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) – Please contact us directly.

Once you are verified, the personal code is used to connect the individual’s identity to their PSC role.

If you are a PSC and also a director of a company, you must submit your code twice: once via the confirmation statement and once via the specialised PSC verification service.

It is now mandatory for People with Significant Control (PSCs) of UK companies to verify their identity with Companies House. Please take action in plenty of time to meet the filing deadlines at Companies House. We are here to help you meet these deadlines.
